Postponement of the 2020 (28th) International Cosmos Prize Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic

Postponement of the 2020 (28th) International Cosmos Prize Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic

July 10, 2020

In consideration of the continuing spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Commemorative Foundation for the International Garden and Greenery Exposition, Osaka, Japan, 1990 (Expo '90 Foundation) (Chairperson: Mr. Fujio Mitarai) has decided to postpone the 2020 (28th) International Cosmos Prize one entire year. The related events including the award ceremony and commemorative lectures will take place in 2021.

The reasons for the postponement of the event is that due to the uncertainties regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic, it would be difficult for us to fulfill the screening process to determine the prizewinner of this year (such as holding meetings of the Prize Committee). Also it would be rarely possible to host the prizewinner, distinguished guests, and participants of the events in safe and sound.

We are sorry, thinking of those who are interested in the International Cosmos Prize each year. This is a very painful decision, but we would appreciate your understanding. We sincerely hope you understand and stay connected with us.
