The Cosmos Letter

In 1993, EXPO'90 Foundation established, as part of its activities, the International Cosmos Prize in commemoration of the International Garden and Greenery Exposition, Osaka, Japan, 1990(EXPO'90). This prize is designed to contribute to the establishment of a new scientific methodology and a sense of value towards the forthcoming era. By using the basic concept of EXPO'90 as a focal point for continued investigations into the phenomenon of life on earth, we hope to transcend the limitation of the conventional scientific methodology; the reduction of matters to their most basic elements.
In addition, we held the first "Cosmos Forum" in 1995 as a step toward this goal. In the conference, scientists and intellectual leaders of the world gathered to discuss, primarily from the standpoint of the natural sciences, the theme of what science in the 21st century should be.
In 1998, we held the second "Cosmos Forum" from the view point of cultural and social sciences which aimed at seeking a principle to guide human consciousness, thought, and behavior in the future.
In the adopted appeal of the conferences, the need for creation of an academic association to provide a forum for world intellectuals to discuss a new way of looking at nature in search of the role of mankind.
"The Cosmos Letter" is a medium to publicize those opinions to the world. The letters now on this web site are those of the leaders who attended the Cosmos Forum of 1995, 1998 and those which we received after the first conference.
